Year 6
Welcome to Year 6!

Elephant Class - Mrs Gavin
Rhino Class - Mrs Bond & Mr Jones
Year 6 promises to be an exciting and memorable final year of primary school, filled with opportunities to learn, grow and shine. From the adventure of our residential trip to the River Dart, to taking centre stage in the Year 6 production, there is plenty to look forward to.Alongside fascinating topics such as World War II, evolution and polar biomes, there are inspiring trips and experiences that will bring learning to life.
Our aim is to prepare children for a new part of their learning journey: secondary school and beyond!
We hope that by the end of Year 6, children have embedded their SPARKS values and go into the world supporting others, are proud of their achievements and most importantly, treat all those who they meet with kindness and respect.

In Year 6, all Maths groups have now started Fractions. We have begun by identifying equivalent fractions e.g. 2/4 = ½ , and looking at how to simplifying them e.g. 6/12 can be simplified to ½ as both 6 and 12 are multiplies of 6. We will be looking at how to compare and order fractions dependent on the numerator (top number) and denominator (bottom number). Did you know that the line in a fraction is called a vinculum? Take a look at this fraction game https://www.sheppardsoftware.com/math/fractions/equivalent-mathman-review/
In English, we have started to focus on debates and held a very heated debate proposing "Homework should be banned." Both sides generated some very compelling arguments and debated in a respectful and concise manner. We have also generated sentence starters to use in written pieces of writing: those that would join arguments together e.g. additionally, furthermore; those that oppose a point of view e.g. however, on the other hand; and those that indicate cause and effect e.g. As a result, consequently.
